Love the warm and cool in the patchwork effect. Seems like your paint is getting tighter. Is it just me or you think your working sharper?

fantastic painting, and the collage effect is greatness

Great idea, Dave! I would guess you cut out slightly different colored copies and made a collage yourself for reference? Great job.

thanks guys, really happy with how this one came out too :D

marc - not sure. I think I've developed better control over what areas need sharper render and what can be left to looseness in the past couple years, and maybe overall that gives the image a sharper look? Choosing battles? I don't know, still finding my way along, like everyone else

Scott - yeah, painting guitars is an unpleasant business all around. All I can say is that I spent the whole time taking deep breaths and maintaining patience. Key areas, can't fudge them...

Bowlin - I printed out a whole bunch of b&w 4x6 sections and tacked up a similar collage, though I didn't think to shift value ranges until I started painting. Definitely a different thought process though, almost like handling each section as an individual image

I love reading others comments - I always learn something, usually involving me to look closer and appreciate more an image. Like that guitar. Now that I pay attention to it I notice how intricately it is painted - very nice indeed & a lot lot of work and patience! And what I thought of as patchwork (well, I am a quilter - so patches is what came to mind immediately) I can see now really is a collage effect.
